Privacy policy
Last updated October 25, 2026
This policy explains what information upCaret LLC, doing business as Cently ("Cently," "we," "us"), collects when you use the Cently website at https://cently.ai and the Cently apps for iOS and Android (together, the "Services"), what we do with it, and the choices you have. Questions go to support@cently.ai.
What we collect
What you give us. Your name and email address when you create an account, or the name and email your Apple or Google account shares with us if you sign in that way. Your chat messages with the Cently assistant. Receipts you photograph, upload, or forward to your Cently receipt address, and any CSV files you upload. Anything you send our support team.
What your bank accounts share. When you link an account, you do it inside Plaid's secure screen. Plaid sends us account and transaction details, such as merchant names, amounts, dates, and categories. We never receive your bank username or password. Plaid handles your information under its own policy at plaid.com/legal/#end-user-privacy-policy.
What your devices share. Your IP address, device type, operating system, app version, language, and the push notification token for your device. We also log how you use Cently, such as which screens you open and which features you use, so we can keep the service running and fix problems.
Payment information. If you subscribe on the web, Stripe collects your card details, and we don't store full card numbers. If you subscribe in the iOS or Android app, Apple or Google handles the payment, and we receive your subscription status and a purchase record so we can unlock your plan.
What the assistant keeps. To help you, the assistant keeps notes about your spending habits and preferences, and we hold your sign-in and financial account details.
Location, if you turn on in-store check-ins. We collect your device's precise location in the background. See "In-store check-ins and location" below.
How we use your information
We use your information to run Cently: showing your spending and budgets, categorizing transactions, reading receipts, answering your questions, sending the alerts and notifications you ask for, processing your subscription, helping you when you contact support, keeping the service secure, preventing fraud, and fixing and improving the product. We also use your email address to send account messages such as sign-in links and receipts, and, if you haven't opted out, product tips and updates.
We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We share information with companies that help us run Cently, and each one gets only what it needs for its job, under a contract that limits how it can use that information.
- Plaid connects your bank and card accounts.
- Anthropic powers the assistant, insights, and receipt reading. See "AI features" below.
- Foursquare turns your device's location into a store or restaurant, if you turn on in-store check-ins. See "In-store check-ins and location" below.
- Other providers handle hosting and storage, email delivery, payments and app store subscriptions, sign-in and push notifications, and analytics.
We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or in connection with a merger, sale, or financing of our business.
Cookies, analytics, and session recordings
On the web, we use cookies and similar browser storage to keep you signed in and to understand how people use the site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing that may sign you out or break parts of the site.
We use an analytics provider on the web and in our apps. In the iOS and Android apps, it also records sessions. A recording is a series of screenshots of what you see in Cently, plus your taps and screen changes. It can capture amounts, merchant names, and text you type into the app. We use recordings to find bugs and confusing screens.
AI features
Cently's assistant, insights, and receipt reading run on Claude, a model from Anthropic. When you use these features, we send Anthropic the information it needs to respond, on our behalf.
What we may send: your chat messages, receipt images, and the data needed to answer your question, such as transaction and receipt details including merchant names, amounts, dates, and categories.
What we don't send: your bank login credentials, your Plaid credentials, or your full bank account, routing, or card numbers.
In-store check-ins and location
In-store check-ins are optional. If you turn them on in the app's Alerts settings, Cently uses your device's location in the background, even when the app is closed, to notice when you've stopped at a store, restaurant, or similar business and send you a budget check-in. This needs the "Always" location permission on your device.
Location signals from your device go to Foursquare, our location partner, which turns them into a visit at a specific business. Foursquare receives them under a random identifier we generate for your installation of the app. It doesn't receive your name, email, account ID, or financial information. Foursquare is a separate company, and its privacy policy describes how it handles the signals it receives.
We don't store your location or a history of the places you visit. We use the place once, to decide whether to send you a check-in. If the assistant does send one, the conversation names the place and stays in your account like your other chats until you delete it.
You can turn check-ins off any time in Alerts settings or by changing the location permission on your device. Turning them off stops collection and deletes the link between your random identifier and your account.
How long we keep your information
We keep your information while you have a Cently account. You can delete specific items, like a receipt, a chat, or a linked account, from inside Cently, or delete your whole account from Settings in the app or on the web. Our delete account page has the steps.
When you delete your account, we delete everything in it right away. We keep two things:
- A record that a subscription existed, kept only to prevent trial and promo abuse.
- Information we're required to keep for a limited time to meet legal, tax, or fraud-prevention obligations.
How we keep it safe
We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest and with access controls that limit who can reach it. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee that no one will ever get past our defenses. If something happens that affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Children
Cently is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has given us information, email support@cently.ai and we'll delete it.
Your privacy rights
You can ask us to show you what we have about you, correct it, give you a copy, or delete it. You can withdraw your consent to anything we do based on your consent, such as location. To unsubscribe from marketing emails, use the link in any of them. We'll still send messages you need to run your account.
To make a request, email support@cently.ai from the address on your account.
US state privacy rights
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, or Nebraska, state law may give you these rights:
- Know whether we process your personal information, and access it.
- Correct inaccuracies.
- Delete it.
- Get a copy.
- Opt out of targeted advertising, the sale or sharing of personal information, and profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We use it only to provide the Services.
- Not be treated worse for using your rights.
Some states add rights, like asking for the specific third parties we disclose to. Ask us and we'll tell you.
We have never sold or shared personal information as those terms are defined by state law.
How to make a request. Email support@cently.ai. We'll need to confirm it's you, usually by matching the request to the email on your account. You can use an authorized agent, and we may ask for written proof that they can act for you.
Appeals. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our email. We'll answer in writing and explain our reasons. If we deny your appeal, you can complain to your state attorney general.
California "Shine the Light." California residents can ask once a year for the categories of personal information we've disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
Do Not Track
Browsers and devices can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There's no common standard for how websites should respond, so we don't currently respond to those signals.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page shows the latest version. If a change matters, such as a new type of data we collect or a new way we use it, we'll let you know in the app or by email.
